Second Saturday is a program exclusively for members of The CT Groups

What is wrong with me?
(or maybe it is my Resume after all?)

Let's face it.  Job Search is not a "copy someone's road to success and you win your new job".  Often we face the endless job submissions with zero feedback and start to wonder what is wrong with me?  In so many cases, it is not about you but something you just did not understand yet.

We can help to fix things that are not understood.

For Second Saturday for April 11thwe're going to try and put a dent in the local statistics by reviewing Resumes again.  Why?

  • 95% to 98% of applications are either "unqualified" (they did not read or respond to the Job Description with their specific background) or it was "junk" (it looks ugly, it is cluttered or disorganized, or one of the top reasons: they never used Spell Check).

If you fall into this group, your competition thanks you as for every 1,000 applicants, 950 to 980 take themselves out of the competition before the resume arrives to them!

  • Many applicants to not understand how to sell ... a job search IS about selling yourself for a problem the employer needs to solve.  Some examples:
    • You talk about all the tasks you did but few to none of them relate to the job you applied for.  You have sold yourself out of the competition.
    • You tell people you are driven, talented, innovative, focused, committed, creative and yet you list no Accomplishment Statements backing you your words.
    • You list being Microsoft Office Certified and demonstrate that you missed a 2 minute lesson on the use of Tabs to create a higher level professional looking document.  This also casts doubt on your Certification and everything else in your Resume.

Like last time we want to dive into some resumes to fix things and answer questions.  IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING CALLED ABOUT AN INTERVIEW for three to four months after using a Resume and you are NOT in a dying industry and applying for an area you are qualified for, odds are your Resume needs help.

IF YOU GET INTERVIEWS but are not called back, you need help with interviewing and that will come later on another month.

Send Kevin or me (but please not both of us) with the Subject: SECOND SATURDAY and we'll try to review it for you before or during the meeting.  If you want to bring it on a thumb drive, bring it and we'll look at it together in the group to help share insights and think through challenges.
