SPAM Block

THIS IS A DRAFT DOCUMENT AND HAS NOT BEEN TESTED TO INSURE ALL NEEDED STEPS ARE SHOWN OR THAT DIFFERENT INTERPRETATIONS MAY BE POSSIBLE.  THIS IS PROVIDED AS A PUBLIC SERVICE BY THE CT GROUPS.  THIS IS NOT AN APPROVED YAHOO! PROCESS.  NO REPRESENTATION IS MADE REGARDING THE FIT OF THIS PROCESS FOR ANY GIVEN PURPOSES.  USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  ALWAYS CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURERS PUBLISHED PROCEDURES AS THE DEFINITIVE PROCESS.

 
This will not produce the ideal situation of an Unsubscribe but it can, depending on your e-mail service tools, remove the unwanted e-mails from your system as they arrive.  
 
Many, if not most e-mails today, are received or sent via a browser, mobile device or using Microsoft Outlook. While the process will vary, most have the ability to handle SPAM, unwanted messages or create rules for different types of messages. Antivirus software often includes anti-SPAM tools that could be setup to assist you. This is to give you a starting point to explore for a possible solution to removing unwanted messages where the Unsubscribe process is not producing the desired outcome. 
 
 
MICROSOFT OUTLOOK
Microsoft Outlook, for many years and versions, has had the ability to define Rules in handling certain types of e-mails. A type is a characteristics that you define within the allowed tools of Outlook to target e-mails for action. There are fundamentally two types of actions you can use:
  a)  have e-mail meeting the defined characteristics to be placed in a special folder you create, or
  b)  have e-mail meeting the defined characteristics to be vaporized upon detection.

Here is a general outline of what to do. Use the Help tool with your release of Microsoft Outlook to implement your preferred approach.

Here are steps you can use on Microsoft Outlook 2013: 
  1. Launch Microsoft Office

  2. Click the Inbox in Outlook you want to create the rule(s) for
    If you do not do this clicking on Rules will NOT allow to create new rules

  3. Click the HOME Tab along the top of the tool bar
    Along the tool bar look for a block marked Move and you will find Rules.

  4. Click on Rules

  5. Click on Create a Rule

  6. The second check box has information on the Subject.

  7. All e-mail sent through The CT Groups via Yahoo! Groups begins with a left bracket, "["
    If Outlook will accept this, this setting should address all group e-mails.
    If it does not, create one for each group e-mail but limit it to the group
    name contained between the left and right brackets by erasing the reset
    of the listed Subject. 


    DECISION MAKING POINT
    You will perform either the first or second bulleted paragraph below but NOT BOTH.

  • IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THEM ALL, click the check box to Move the item to a folder
    By clicking on Select Folder you may select an existing folder -OR- create a specific folder for the targeted e-mails to be moved to.  When the file has been created and/or specified, click the "OK" Button for the window Create Rule.  A pop-up appears titled "Success". Check the box to run your new rule on the messages already in the current folder (your Inbox). This will now move all messages meeting your rule into the folder you specified. Depending on how many you have this may take a few minutes. As a rule, it will automatically be applied to all new e-mails that arrive to this Inbox.

    If you do not want anything in the folder you created, simply use Empty Folder (right mouse click when cursor is on the target folder) empty the folder versus deleting every entry within the folder.
 
  • IF YOU WANT TO VAPORIZE THEM UPON RECEIPT, this requires more effort but it permanently delete the e-mail upon receipt. You must have completed Steps 1 through 7 first. In the lower right of the pop-up box, click Advanced Options. A pop-up titled Rules Wizard appears. Towards the top of the displayed check list you will find a line that reads "with _____ in the subject" (the underscores could be anything). Check this box. Below in Rules Wizard you will see this rule has been entered for you. Click on the ______ words and enter either "[" to catch all e-mails with a Subject starting with a left bracket -OR- Enter enough characters from the Subjects you want to PERMANENTLY DELETE AUTOMATICALLY and click Add. If there is another line shown, click on that line and click the Remove button.  You can now click on the OK button.  Please note, there is no "undelete" if you make a mistake in creating or using this type of Rule.  In the Rules Wizard box, click the Next> button to move to the next page.  Near the top of the new page within the Rules Wizard is a line permanently delete it   Check this box.  Respond to the warning about having e-mails PERMANENTLY DELETED.  If you click NO, you are done.  If you clicked Yes, click the Next> button in Rules Wizard TWICE.   The Rules Wizard how has the message Finish rule setup.  In Step 2 the first check box is to Run this rule now on messages already in "Inbox" ... check this box.  Next click on the Finish button which will active the rule and start deleting items targeted by the rule you created.  THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP THIS PROCESS ONCE IT STARTS AS OFTEN THE DELETES ARE HAPPING ON YOUR COMPUTER AND ON YOUR E-MAIL SERVER CONCURRENTLY.
