CT-SupportGroups

A frequent question is where else is The CT Groups operating and there is a group for that.

The answer is a good news/bad news thing.

The bad news is The CT Groups is unique to Memphis and uses an approach that is unique to Memphis according to recruiters who have visited other cities and states including Atlanta, Dallas, St. Louis, Houston, and others.  This is, of course, very good if you are in the Memphis area.  Most frequently cited is our private networks, our free resources offered to members, plus number and diversity of participating groups in the network.

The good news is we are aware of, through various sources, other support groups within the US.  The CT Groups has created a public access web site, broken out by state and in some cases by larger cities or metro areas.  The site is at http://groups.yahoogroups.com/group/CT-SupportGroups  It is important to understand these groups are NOT part of The CT Groups organization or network and may differ significantly in any number of areas including program structure, resources, policies, fees, dues, or other financial charges assessed for membership or services offered or used.  The CT Groups lists these as a courtsey and that at least one point in time these groups did operate.

The CT Groups has listed the groups based strictly on a report they were operating.
The listing of any group in the identified web site below or subordinate sites
does not represent any endorsement of any kind for any of the groups.  This
does not constitute any connection between the listed groups and that of
The CT Groups.

CAUTION:
All support groups are not the same.  Without discussing it formally, you may be making a commitment for payments, participation, and/or your time when joining a support group.

"Let The Buyer Beware".  Insure you know up front:
    • all financial obligations (fees, charges, expenses or others) you are making
Meeting fees, for example, typically are $10.00 each plus an annual membership fee of $50.oo to $100.00  There may be required dinners at $25.00 to $50.00, special lectures or presentations at $35.00 to $75.00, and the list goes on.  Easily what was once free can now run over $1,000/year.

    • all expectations on your participation or direct involvement
Meetings, special events, seminars, recruiting efforts, recruiting companies for job postings, event planning, bookkeeping, membership drives, computer support may all be expected from you depending on your skills and expertise without compensation.  At potential risk is loss of your membership.

    • all expectations on your time
These can be any number of tasks based on your skills, expertise, or network contacts.

    • who is driving this group
Some organizations are commercial operations.  Some are operated by a recruiter or company for the purpose of collecting "inventory" of candidates to fill their job openings only.

    • locations
where are these locations and at what times/dates/frequency
Your time is your money when it comes to travel time and costs.

    • written requirements
Do they have a formal written document governing the organization, identification of obligations including financial, participation, and personal involvement, how these can be changed, how members are dealt with administratively and any financial impact for violations, policy for readmission, policy for going inactive, attending events as a non-member, etc.
